Approach to Practice / Form of Mediation

I try to create a safe environment in which participants can discuss their differences in a rational and confidential manner. I believe disputants should be knowledgeable about their rights and responsibilities, and I provide legal information for the participants when desired.

Background

I have a B.A. from Haverford College ('73) and a J.D. from Stanford Law School ('79). I have had an active mediation practice since 1983. I am a Lifetime Member of the Oregon Mediation Association and a Practitioner Member of the Association for Conflict Resolution. I am co-author with Jay Folberg of the OSB CLE Publication, "Family Law Mediation." I teach Family Law and Mediation courses as an Adjunct Professor at Lewis & Clark School of Law. I was Chair of the Oregon State Bar Section on ADR for 1993-94. Through my law practice, I have had broad experience with division of complex assets, such as closely held corporations and pension plans. I work closely with a number of accountants and actuaries and have expertise in the valuation of business assets. I have lectured on asset valuation and related topics for the OSB CLE Program. I am particularly interested in mediation of divorces involving closely held businesses or other complex financial assets, will contests, real estate disputes, disputes among shareholders in closely held corporations, and general business and commercial disputes.
