Approach to Practice / Form of Mediation

I prefer to speak with parties prior to mediation to get a sense of the concerns that need addressing and to discuss options for structuring the mediation session. I usually work with parties together, although I caucus as needed or if the parties request it. I help parties draft mediation agreements and I provide summary reports if needed. I use a facilitative, broad approach to mediation, working at the level of interests.

Prior to establishing a sole proprietorship in 1999, I was a mediator with Hallmark Pacific Group. I also served as the Director of the ADR Department of the Better Business Bureau (Oregon/SW Washington). For 12 years, I was a speech-language pathologist in the public schools. Affiliations: Association for Conflict Resolution; Oregon Mediation Association (former President of the Board of Directors); Oregon Department of Education Mediator Roster; Ethics Team - Elderplace Program/Providence Health Systems. Users of Services: Providence Health Systems, Vancouver Family Wellness Center; Portland Public Schools; Multnomah County; Good Samaritan - Corvallis; Oregon Commission on Children and Families; Lake Oswego Public Schools.

Training: Basic and advanced mediation training (including health care, education, multi-cultural, workplace, landlord-tenant).

I present at professional conferences and provide training in related areas.
