The Family Mediation Center, established in 1980, specializes in divorce, family, and interpersonal conflict.The goal of the center is to provide a forum for people in dispute to negotiate acceptable and mutually beneficial settlements in an atmosphere which promotes cooperation, increases communication and understanding, and allows an opportunity for healing between parties who have continuing relationships. Individual, marriage and family therapy, and consultations regarding divorce and parenting matters are provided as another part of the practice.

Lois Gold, M.S.W. is past president of the national Academy of Family Mediators and has been prominently involved in the development of mediation since the 1970's . She began the first mediation service in Oregon in 1980 and maintains a private practice as a therapist and mediator in Portland, Oregon She is author of A Guide to Civilized Divorce; revised and updated 2009 as THe Healthy Divorce.
