Approach to Practice / Form of Mediation

Solo mediation. I hope to help people have the difficult conversations they want and need to have with each other. I can provide a safe atmosphere and guide productive discussions that thoroughly work through the issues, yet are gentle on the people involved. I use a variety of techniques to help people manage intense emotions while articulating their interests and resolving disputes. I can start with a joint session, or use private meetings as needed. I also have experience determining and providing the reasonable accommodations which individuals with disabilities may need to effectively participate.

Background

My formal education includes a B.A in Anthropology from Northwestern University in 1973, and a J.D. from Harvard Law School in 1976. I've been a member of the Oregon State Bar since 1976. I've had extensive continuing legal education, and varied training in mediation since 1983. As an Adjunct Law Professor since 1980, I have taught courses on Disability Law, Juvenile Law and clinical legal skills at the law schools at Lewis & Clark College and Willamette University. Previous experience as an attorney includes positions with Marion-Polk Legal Aid (1977-81), Juvenile Rights Project (1981-85) and Oregon Advocacy Center (1988-96). I stopped practicing law in 1996 so that I could serve as a neutral outside resource to a wide range of individuals and groups.
