23rd Annual OMA Fall Conference
in partnership with the University of Oregon School of Law Appropriate Dispute Resolution Center
November 6 & 7, 2009
University of Oregon School of Law Eugene, Oregon
The Oregon Mediation Association, in partnership with the University of Oregon School of Law Appropriate Dispute Resolution Center, invites you to join us at the 23rd Annual Fall Conference. The conference is designed for mediators, attorneys, students, educators, ADR practitioners, human resource professionals, counselors, social workers, and others interested in learning about mediation.
Conference Focus: “Beyond Heroes & Villains: The Power of Collaboration”
A recent newspaper headline declared: “President Obama says U.S. may negotiate with the Taliban." Within the past year and with a new president in office, fundamental changes in global perspective are occurring regarding how we deal with friend and foe alike. We are hearing a new perspective in the dialogue. The choice to view even our implacable enemies in a different way signals a strategic change of direction in dealing with conflicts at the international level. A shift of this magnitude has implications for every level of conflict resolution, whether between nations, groups or individuals. The challenge ahead is to continue developing and applying our knowledge, skills and collaborative approaches to the work of mediation and conflict resolution. The 2009 OMA Fall Conference provides us with a valuable opportunity to move beyond simple characterizations of people as heroes and villains and explore the unique possibilities that collaboration offers.
