2010 Conference: Keynote Speaker Carrie Menkel-Meadow, J.D.
![]() Professor Menkel-Meadow is Chancellor’s Professor of Law at the new University of California, Irvine School of Law and A.B. Chettle, Jr. Professor of Dispute Resolution and Civil Procedure at Georgetown Law School. She holds a J.D. degree from the University of Pennsylvania and two L.L.D.s (Honorary) from Quinnipiac and Southwestern Schools of Law. Professor Menkel-Meadow has served as the director of the Georgetown Hewlett Fellowship Program in Conflict Resolution and Problem-Solving and chair of the Georgetown-CPR Commission on Ethics and Standards in ADR. She is co-editor of the Journal of Legal Education and is currently editor of the International Journal of Law in Context (Cambridge University Press) and Associate Editor of the Harvard Program on Negotiation’s, Negotiation Journal. Professor Menkel-Meadow often serves as a mediator and arbitrator in public and private settings, and has trained lawyers and mediators on five continents. As a Fulbright scholar in 2007, Professor Menkel-Meadow taught and conducted research in Chile, Argentina and China. A national expert in alternative dispute resolution, the legal profession, legal ethics, clinical legal education, and women in the legal profession, Menkel-Meadow has written and lectured extensively in these fields. She is the author of Dispute Resolution: Beyond the Adversarial Model (2005, 2nd ed, 2010); Negotiation: Processes for Problem Solving (2006); Mediation: Theory, Policy & Practice (2006); Dispute Processing & Conflict Resolution (2003), and over 125 articles. Professor Menkel-Meadow has been a Visiting Professor at the University of Toronto, Harvard Law School, Stanford Law School, and many other law schools in Europe and South America.
