24th Annual OMA Fall Conference
The Oregon Mediation Association invites you to join us at the 24th Annual Fall Conference. The conference is designed for mediators, attorneys, students, educators, ADR practitioners, human resource professionals, counselors, social workers, and others interested in learning about mediation. As last year’s Oregon Mediation Association Fall Conference approached, our members looked forward to what seemed to be a promising period, a time of “hope.” We optimistically saw this moment in history as an opportunity, through collaboration, to address and solve many of the challenging and difficult issues that were confronting us. ___________________________________________
As we plan the 2010 OMA Fall Conference, most of the challenges that we faced last year remain unresolved. The global community struggles with continuing armed conflict. Much of the world is facing difficult economic issues and attempts to address the complexity of climate change seem impossible. The promise of collaborative problem solving that President Obama promoted has often seemed to devolve into political stalemate in some arenas. Finger pointing has been frequent. Here in Oregon, voters passed Measures 66 & 67. Some analysts lamented that as a result, a rift between many in the business community and the legislature may not begin to heal for a long time, preventing any chance of collaboration on future issues. Our 2010 Fall Conference invites us to ponder the reasons why it has been so difficult to gain agreement on crucial issues and also a chance to begin to search together for solutions. _____________________________________________________ OMA is proud to welcome keynote speaker Carrie Menkel-Meadow, J.D.
