Project Status
OMA is currently seeking grant funding to continue the work begun with the generous support of the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation.
When obtained, funding would continue the efforts undertaken in the first phases of the project, and would seek to create additional methods for communities to increase capacity to effectively serve their Hispanic/Latino populations. It is anticipated that these will include development of training curriculum materials, additional printed information in Spanish, and individualized guidance fro local communities.
During the Hewlett portion of the project (through December 2004), quite a great deal was accomplished. In short, a needs assessment was conducted, project partners identified and engaged in the planning process, local capactiy measured, training conducted, statistical baselines established, a reporting tool created, and considerable outreach efforts undertaken. The results were heartening, with a noticeable increase in the use of mediation services by the Hispanic population in the pilot areas.
